Pau is a lovely little city near the edge of the Pyrenées. We were going there to visit Joanne and Clément, who flatted with Finn's sister when they were in Aotearoa. Joanne let us stay in her awesome apartment, and she stayed at Clément's for a few days.

My favourite thing about the apartment building - The Cupboard under the Stairs |
My adventures in Pau
Artisanal umbrellas! I've never seen a store where they make umbrellas before. |
Big church |
Everyone in France loves the All Blacks! I have yet to see a French-branded rugby store |
The regional council building |
The funicular! It's been going for decades, and is wheelchair accessible |
It's a short ride but goes every 3mins, and it's free! People use it for a variety of reasons - to get to work, to go out for lunch, or just as part of an afternoon stroll. |
Jesus Fernandez Duro, the first person to cross the Pyrénées by balloon! |
A little park at the top of the funicular |
Bike shares operate everywhere in France, it's super awesome. |
The town hall, with the ever-present police in front |
Finn made an awesome meal - carrot soup for entrée, meatballs with couscous and vegetable gratin for the plat, then a cheese course, and I made waffles (with Joanne's help) for dessert.
Soup, meatballs, gratin |
The gratin looks way more colourful from the side |
And finally, the view from Boulevard des Pyrénées. Unfortunately due to the clouds I couldn't actually see the mountains, but I'm sure they're out there! |
